Spells are simply active prayers. Just like prayers, spells are used to catalyze or create change in one’s life or someone else’s, most often that of a loved one.

They are petitions to the Higher Powers to create the change. Spells are used to connect with our divine selves using our own energies to create changes.

Ordinarily, Wiccans/Witches will not perform a spell for anyone who has not asked and had given them permission. Spells, like those that use love magic to gain the good graces of an individual or curses are considered manipulative.

Anything that manipulates or goes against the free will of anybody is considered wrong.

Wiccan spells

The Old English term for witch is Wicca. They used it to counter all the negative stereotypes that society gave to witchcraft.

Wiccans use spells. These are rituals and prayers carried out to ask for divine help in a certain aspect of life. However, these must adhere to the Wiccan Rede, the witchcraft code of conduct.

The overall consideration is that any spell used to manipulate, dominate, or control another person is forbidden. The Wiccan Rede rules that a witch may engage in any action as long as it is carefully considered and that their actions do not harm anyone including themselves.

All of witchcraft is ruled by the Threefold Law. This is the belief that any action taken by any witch affecting another person will come back to the witch threefold, whether good or bad.

Constructive spells

Constructive spells should be done during the waxing of the moon, the time when the moon is full and bright. These are spells performed for luck, some fertility rites and spells used for protection.

To achieve the best end results, all witches agree that spells should be practiced while in a positive mood. Most often, too, in the practice of witchcraft, they have aids in spells to guarantee good results.

These aids in witchcraft, believed to have magical properties, include different herbs and leaves. One example is the bay leaf used often to invoke positive energy.

Consecration or Purification

The dictionary defines consecration as a “formal dedication to a religious or divine purpose.” In the practice of witchcraft, consecration should be practiced before any tool can be used.

Consecration is a form of purification and is done with salt, water and incense. These all stand for the five elements of nature – water, earth, fire, air and spirit.

It is important that consecration used for witchcraft be done in a positive state of mind. This will incorporate the spirit part of the elements.

Consecration is actually to ask for and gain approval of the God and Goddess for what is about to be performed.

Wiccan God and Goddess

In witchcraft, all spells are basically used to channel the power of the Wiccan God and Goddess to initiate positive changes and for the resolution of problems. In this regard, a spell-giver must know the phase of the moon is in while performing the spells.

As an example, it is best to do banishing spells in the waning of the moon when it is dark. Sample spells include hope for the end of illness, warding off destructive insects in farms, and many others.

Types of Wicca and Magical Spells

Wiccans do not intentionally harm other people by casting spells on them. They do not perform sex orgies; otherwise, rare traditions include nudity and occasional sexual practices. These however, were closed to outsiders.

Those were mostly misconceptions about Wicca. Wicca is a religious belief system that worships gods and goddesses. A system similar to Taoist’ yin yang, Wicca believes in harmony with nature. Thus, it involves manipulation of nature through rituals.

It does not have a structure, but wiccans have priests and priestesses as leaders. They believe in the Book of Rede and the Law of Three Fold Return. These beliefs state that a person has the freedom to act according his will but he has to take responsibility over his actions. The second belief is similar to eastern Asia’s karma in which a person is awarded or punished depending on his actions toward a fellow human being.

There are different types of Wicca. These are 1734, Alexandrian, Celtic, Dianic, Eclectic, Gardnerian, Georgian Wiccas to name a few.

Robert Cochrane who attempted to restore the “Old Religion” developed the 1734 Wiccan tradition. “1734” is a cryptogram denoting a title for the name of the goddess. Its tradition involves meditation, chanting, channeling, and visions. Among Wiccan traditions, 1734 does not use the Book of Shadows. They do not have official hierarchical structure too.

Together with his wife Maxine, Alex Sanders began the Alexandrian Wicca. He was called the King of the Witches. They say Sanders worshipped the devil for some time. He experimented with homosexuality, magic, and healing. His Alexandrian Wiccans reflect those of Gardnerian tradition but focuses on ritualistic magic and is similar to Kabbalah.

A British civil servant in the 1950s, Gerald Gardner established his own Wiccan tradition. This tradition is one of the oldest and is considered by other Wiccans to be the beginning of Wiccan tradition. Worth noting, however, is that Gardner did not invent Wicca. He only compiled a number of spells, magic, rituals, and chants into a book called the Book of Shadows. Gardnerian tradition focuses on gods, goddesses, and nature.

Celtic Wicca is a combination of Celtic traditions, ancient Celtic belief systems, and modern religion. This kind of tradition focuses on the male aspect but later ventured on the goddesses as well to be in harmony with the nature. Celtic Wiccans use herbals in rituals, believe in divinity of creatures, practice reverence to women, and perform rituals to seek connection with their ancestors and land spirits. It emphasizes on poetry and magic.

The Feminist Wicca is the Dianic, named after Diana the Roman goddess of the hunt. Zsuzsanna Budapest in California founded the Dianic Wicca. While the Celtic Wicca focuses on male, this kind of tradition believes the female aspect is the true creative source of universe. Thus, Wiccans believe matriarchal communities exist in ancient times. Dianic Wiccans asserted that patriarchal system started the system of war. Their members were usually associated with feminine movement in the 1960s. This tradition proved that Wiccans are not ugly old hag who laughs as she stirs a cauldron.

Magic spells have been a long human interest. People are fascinated on how spells could work for and against a person’s interest. Hearing the word Carmen today tells us it is a feminine name and nothing else. Even those Carmens in our day never associated their names to a spell.

In ancient times however, when one speaks of carmen, they talk about priests and their ritualistic spells. Long before the dawn of Christianity, carmen is a verse that means a spell, ritual, or incantation. This history of carmen came from the Ancient Rome.

Nowadays, there are only two oldest prayers of ancient Romans known to academicians. They are Carmen Arvale and Carmen Saliare. These prayers are both in Latin. Old libraries were able to preserve some books listing the verses of Carmen Arvale and Carmen Saliare.

These carmen verses were chanted by different priests, coming from two dissimilar clergies. The Arval priests sang the Carmen Arvale while the Salian priests sang the Carmen Arvale together with a sacred dance.

Both the carmen verses were sung for varied purposes. The Arval priests believed that singing Carmen Arvale would make their land fertile and thus ensure a bountiful harvest for the community. Their rituals were devoted only to goddess Dea Dia.

Meanwhile, the Salian priests performed rituals and dances, including the singing of Carmen Saliare, to ensure military power of their land. They did the rituals to worship Mars, the Roman god of war, and Quirinus, the ancient Roman god equivalent to Janus.

Both the Arval and Salian priests were no ordinary clergies. They came from patrician families and chosen by the country. Most often than not, the Arval priests were the appointed emperor of the Roman Empire. On the other hand, the Salian priests would continue to be priests for the entire duration of their life unless they would have achieved a more prestigious priesthood.

Ambarvalia was the name of the festival where Arval priests sang the Carme Arvale. While, the Salian priests performed a sacred dance and sang the Carmen Saliare every March and October.

Five different points of a pentagram represent each element, and as such the pentagram is a fundamental shape in Wiccan tradition.

Lastly, Wicca does not follow any particular book like Christianity and the Bible, or Islam and the Koran. One book does exist (The Book of Shadows) but it is just a collection of spells which has been updated and extended over history.

World of Magic Spells

Magic spells are still practiced today, and have a long range of practice in our history. They have been used by men called sorcerers during the Dark Ages, because of increased superstition at that time. As we have just mentioned, though, they are still used today through many different groups and organizations.

There are various types of magic spells provided by different cultures that achieve different tasks. Some say that magic spells are separated into two different main categories, as they can be either white or black. White magic is said to be used to help a person or help the spell caster. Black magic is used to harm or cause the caster to have mind control over someone else. These two are disputed as legitimate categories by many, though, as modern magic practitioners say that magic can not be good or bad (as many theories of black and white magic claim) but can only be related to the intentions of the caster. And to add to the theory that magic is not black and white are spells like levitation, as those spells clearly are not to help or harm anyone.

An example of a spell of the white magic category would be a spell of luck. There are many spells of luck available to a sorcerer who wishes improvement in this area, and these spells require a variety of movements, speech, relative times, or materials. One spell for good luck requires a full moon, and is a spell said in the honor of Lady Luck. There are other variations of luck spells as well. One requires the caster to simply focus energy into their arms, put their arms together, then release them and rub them all over the body, and this spell promises good luck to the spell caster.

There are also examples of black magic such as the nightmare branch of magic spells. Nightmare spells can be used to negate nightmares, in order to help one sleep or just keep one from scary nightmares. But for black magic purposes, nightmare spells or chants are used to induce an enemy with nightmares. These often require candles and a picture of the enemy. These spells are said to cause immense torment on the target, and if they are cast multiple times they have the ability to cause injury and even death.

Different cultures are linked to different types of magic. The voodoo practiced in some areas of Haiti is known to be linked with the dark magic arts. This includes spells that are said to harm others, such as resurrecting the dead to assassinate one's enemies, or even the well-known voodoo dolls that are also used for harm.

Is there such a thing as real magic spells and real love spells? These are common questions amongst budding young wizards and witches of today aspiring to practice spells and magic, or even people who have no such aspirations, but are just curious.

With a flurry in magical programs such as Charmed, Merlin and films like Harry Potter, the world of wizardry and witchcraft is growing in popularity. But are these realms of fantasy based in any reality at all? Also, why are we so excited with them?! Perhaps it's indicating a longing for a break from our material life of science and fact through something that's different, magical, otherworldly.

There's something inbuilt in us human beings which hankers for and becomes excited by such a realm of magic and mystery. Perhaps we want the fun, the thrill, too feel the power of adjusting our worldly environment with something intangible; to cast a spell by waving our magic wand for good health and energy, for our troubles to desert us or to find loving relationships, fun and laughter.

I've seen sites catering for all sorts of needs of the magical customer, each offering their own specific variations of services such as spells of magic, black and white magic spells, free voodoo spells, free witchcraft spells, magic love spells, free love spells, free magic spells and recipes for spells and potions! And there are some pretty good potions out there, especially for homemade incense for festive celebrations like weddings or Sabbats.

People also question fearfully, is there such a thing as real black magic? What about voodoo? Is it dangerous? But what about the dark side?! Are we facing our own dark sides when we search for a black magic spell or a free voodoo spell?
Perhaps it is our consciousness that is the key to understanding this. Whatever our mind leans towards towards, it is often found that this is the general result that is created. Sometimes we don't mean to create this, it just seems to happen! But that could be because it's done subconsciously.

'The rule of three' and 'harm none' and are the witches' rules of good practice. The eastern law of karma is very similar to this. Good action leads to good returning to you and if you do bad, with the intention to harm then, well, you can fill in the blank. Whatever you create is your responsibility.

Magic is about your intention. It's personal to you. Your magic is about your will and personal power. And by power I don't mean mighty might. I mean personal power; what we want, what we have to offer the world, to create our best creations. We all have the power to do this. To draw inspiration from our environment, people in your life, plants and trees, inanimate ancient objects like standing stones that have seen all weathers both good and bad, animals. Whatever it is, trust that you have inside you, your own special magical potential glowing at your fingertips.

It all gets quite deep, but that's how it is the world of magic and witchcraft, especially if you are new. It's full of very old wisdom and knowledge and it gives fathomless depths of richness and insight for the enthusiastic practitioner, as a way of creating, for self awareness and understanding. So all in all, such things as real magic spells do indeed exist, it just depends on what you desire to create.

Pow-wow is a combination of Christian and shamanistic belief system associated with the Pennsylvania Dutch, who came from Germanic tribes and immigrated to Pennsylvania. Many of these immigrants are believed to have come from radical Christians.

If a person has a whooping cough, a pow-wow practitioner would usually do a procedure different from the regular. First, they cut three small bunches of hair from the crown head of a child who has never seen his father. Then the hairs are sewn in an unbleached rag. This will be then hanged around the neck of the person having a cough. The thread used in sewing is unbleached too.

There is another procedure in curing cough. It is to thrust the sick person three times through a blackberry bush without saying anything. After which, the bush must grow fast at two ends and then thrusting is done on the second time.

Put together your lover’s and your hairs, nail clippings, menstrual fluid and some of your semen in one container. Then, wrap the container in bright red paper. Using a gold-inked pain, write the Chinese characters for love, good fortune, and happiness on one side while your full real names on the other side. This ritual is done at sunrise after the Chinese New Year. Do these things while facing the northern direction.

While many love spells require several stuffs accompanied with ritual, the simple love spell is done simply by walking to a spot beneath your lover’s bedroom window and then whispering his or her name three times to the night wind. • the power sound, as found in litanies, chants, and drumming

But, having said all of that, to cast stronger magic spells you always have to examine yourself. You are the most powerful driving force of any magical spell. So then the question becomes, how can you increase your own force so that you can cast stronger magic spells?

Building Your Own Force to Cast Strong Magic Spells

There are many magic rituals that can help you build force, and almost any positive magic ritual done on a CONSISTENT basis will increase your force. But going back to Winston Churchill's quote of "never complain, never explain," I have to say that this is one of my favorite ways to increase inner force. Magically, it makes sense. Here's why.

Never Complain

Complaining, as you have probably already experienced, puts you in a negative state of being. While you may feel better in the moment, as you complain, what you are actually doing is spending focused time manifesting what you don't want (i.e., whatever you are complaining about). So stop complaining already.

Actually, quitting the habit of complaining can be almost as difficult as kicking a smoking habit or any other addiction. So here are three tips that might help:

1. Even if you are complaining and nattering to yourself inside, do everything in your power not to express the complaint outwardly. Outer silence comes before inner silence.

2. If you really need to vent, give yourself five minutes a day and let it all hang out. Write it down in a journal or call a good friend. Then, let 'er rip. The rest of the day, don't complain.

3. To quiet either inner or outer complaint, when you feel the urge, tell yourself, "I'll let myself complain in five minutes." Five minutes later, tell yourself the same thing. This technique is known to work well for both smokers and complainers.

If you limit complaining for 40 days, you'll be amazed at how much your inner force increases, which will have a positive effect not just in terms of casting magic spells, but also in terms of improving your life overall. Well, duh, right? But it had to be said.

Never Explain

This is the part where most magical practitioners lose the most force. There is always the temptation to "explain" what we are doing and why to other people, for a variety of reasons.

Many of us just like to feel like we are not alone on the journey, so there's the temptation to explain our magic to friends who are not magical practitioners. Other times, we might feel the need to show off or demonstrate our powers, especially when challenged by non-believers.

Whatever the reason, explaining the use of magic goes against one of the primary Rules of the Road (the universal laws that govern magical practice). Created by George Dew, these rules hold true whether you believe them or not. The one that specifically applies to the "never explain" clause is this one:

"Never use magic for show, pride, or vainglory. Using magic to show off, to prove a point, or from a place of injured pride usually results in side-bands (undesirable side effects) to the operation that will bring very undesirable backlash from the Universe."

So even if you feel sorely tempted, never explain your magic, don't. In esoteric practice, there is something called the "hermetic seal." This seal refers to the practice of keeping certain aspects of your magical practice compartmentalized, away from public view.

While we definitely believe that certain magic rituals should be integrated into daily life, such as the Navajo Beauty Way, if you want to increase your force as a magical practitioner, keep a hermetic seal around most of your magical practice, especially spell work. In other words, if you want to cast stronger magic spells, keep your mouth shut about it.

I have no idea whether Winston Churchill practiced any form of magic or not, but the guy hit the nail on the head when he said "Never complain, never explain." To increase the force of your magic spells, try following this dictum for 40 days or so. If you manage it, even partly, you'll be both pleased and surprised by the result!

For the record, it is important to know that spells are projected energies sent out by spell casters of various color. Though not necessarily of the demonic type, this energy will also NEVER hurt you on two conditions.

If your neighbor is tall, gaunt, and hunched, then look for a figurine that is tall, gaunt, and hunched over. A short fat figurine won't work, nor will a ballerina figurine. It always amazes me how many people pick any old figurine to use for a voodoo spell. If you want to cast stronger voodoo spells, be very specific about the object used as the simulacrum.

2. The Material of the Voodoo Doll or Object Won't Hold a Key

"Keying" is the magical process by which you connect the object of a simulacra spell to the object it represents in the real world. For instance, in the case of the map spell, keying is the process by which you connect the figurine to your naughty neighbor. Assuming that you have chosen a figurine that closely matches your neighbor in looks and personality, you next must be sure that the figurine is made of a material that will hold the "key," or connection to the real world person.

Materials such as wood, metal, glass, and ceramic work well. Plastic, rubber, and modern composites tend not to hold a key. If you want to cast stronger voodoo spells, make sure your voodoo doll or object is made of the right materials. For most simple voodoo magic spells, you can key a figurine just by holding it in your dominant hand and flowing energy into the object as you think about the person. Once an object is cleansed, it's ready for use in spellwork, and you avoid any "side bands" that might have been generated from previous handling of the object.
